Mike Dunn played his senior year of high school baseball at Cimarron-Memorial, and was the second of six College of Southern Coyotes to make the major leagues. In December, he signed a $19 million contract with the Colorado Rockies.
Russ Nixon was a lifetime baseball man, having spent 55 years in the game as a player, coach and manager. He was 81 when he died Nov. 9 following a lengthy illness.
Before this week, the last time I heard from Shane Victorino’s people was July, during the All-Star break. One of his reps said Victorino, who makes his offseason home here, had just become the all-time RBI leader for a major league ballplayer born in Hawaii, thereby breaking Mike Lum’s record, and would I like to talk to him?
