There is a quaintness, an innocence, a satin-warmup-jacket, canvas-basketball-sneaker naivete about watching the dots on the Nevada map decide their high school state basketball championships at Orleans Arena on Saturday that one doesn’t necessarily get when the big and haughty schools from Las Vegas and Reno decide theirs on Friday night.
The mission for Guyana’s rugby sevens team this weekend was twofold: Improve on last year’s encouraging performance and return to the Commonwealth without the foreign journalists asking about Jim Jones.
The first thing one notices about the Lingerie Bowl are the uniforms. Tiny halter bra, tiny hot pants, hockey helmet, athletic shoes. OK, so you don’t notice the hockey helmets and athletic shoes.
