Palo Verde’s girls swimming and diving team won its third consecutive 4A state championship Saturday at the Carson Aquatic Facility, while the boys team won its fifth consecutive title with not nearly as much drama or challenge.
Centennial swept both genders in the Class 4A state track meet at Foothill on Saturday, winning the seventh consecutive state title for the girls, and fourth in six years for the boys.
Gizelle Reid won the title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.98 seconds at the Class 4A state track meet at Foothill on Friday.

Rancho jumped on Centennial for nine runs in the first two innings and held on for a 9-7 victory at Las Vegas High to earn the final berth in the Class 4A state baseball tournament.
Bishop Gorman’s Jarrod Billig struck out Zack Simon with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure an 11-8 victory over host Centennial for the Sunset Region baseball title.
Zack Simon drilled a bases-clearing double to left-center field to tack on a few insurance runs, and Centennial’s baseball team won the losers’ bracket final of the Sunset Region against Spring Valley, 7-3.
And after faltering in the first set Friday against Centennial, the Palo Verde boys volleyball team played like a team dead-set against repeating history, rallying to defeat the Bulldogs 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-15 to earn the Class 4A Sunset Region title.
Centennial squandered a two-game lead and survived three match points in the fifth set to defeat Arbor View 25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 24-26 and 19-17 in a Class 4A Sunset Region boys volleyball semifinal at Legacy.
