DIVISION I TRACK: Silverado’s boys, Centennial girls soar

The Skyhawks seemingly contend for a state team title every five years, and Saturday was no different as they overcame injuries and wintry conditions to claim the championship at the Division I state track and field meet at Carson High.

DIVISION I SWIMMING: Palo Verde wins boys, girls titles

The Panthers took control early, with both teams cruising to victories. It was the second consecutive state title for the girls and the fourth straight for the boys.

DIVISION I TRACK: Liberty senior continues golden discus tradition

Nick Tapuala won the discus at the Division I state track and field meet with a mark of 178 feet, 9 inches despite unfavorable conditions at Carson High and became the third Liberty thrower to take home a state title in the event since 2011.

DIVISION I GOLF: Trent, Panthers claim titles

Palo Verde’s Jack Trent shot 3-under-par 69 in the final round and finished with a two-round total of 5-under 139 to earn his second consecutive individual state title.

SUNSET SWIMMING: Palo Verde seniors go out with relay win, region title

The college-bound quartet of Izzy Goldsmith, Hailey Houck, Adriana Piccininni and Kasdyn Rafie won the final race of the Division I Sunset Region boys and girls swimming and diving meet Saturday — a swimming curtain call — to cap off Palo Verde’s second straight girls team title.

SUNSET TRACK: Haymore, Centennial shine

Karina Haymore won two individual events and finished second in another to lead Centennial’s girls track team to its ninth consecutive Sunset Region title.

SUNSET VOLLEYBALL: Aggies outlast Palo Verde for first region title

Treven Clizbe had 26 kills and 23 digs, and Brenden Wagner added 22 kills and 13 digs Friday as Arbor View claimed its first region title by outlasting the Panthers, 19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8 in the Division I Sunset Region final at Legacy. Both teams advance to next week’s state tournament.

SUNSET BASEBALL: Gaels find missing ingredient, rout Cimarron

Beau Capanna hit a second-inning grand slam, and Gorman had 12 hits en route to a 10-0, five-inning win over Cimarron in the losers’ bracket final. The Gaels (31-5) play Centennial (26-9) in the championship round at noon on Saturday. Gorman would have to win twice to capture the title and earn a berth at state.
