Camden Zahn hit a chopper just inside of first base to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning and raced around to score on a wild throw after a sacrifice bunt to lift the Palo Verde to a 10-9 win over Centennial in the losers’ bracket final of the Division I Sunset Region softball tournament at Bishop Gorman.
Sofia Meza singled into center field with one out in the 10th, plating Shae Clements from second base with the decisive run as the Mustangs nipped Palo Verde, 5-4 at Bishop Gorman and earned a spot in Saturday’s Division I Sunset Region final.
Taylor Askland struck out a season-high 10 batters and scattered nine hits to lead Palo Verde to a 12-4 win over visiting Centennial in a winners’ bracket semifinal of the Division I Sunset Region tournament.
Bishop Gorman coach Kevin Smith watched his Gaels cough up a six-run lead in the second inning, allow 20 hits, commit six errors and still somehow outslug host Arbor View 18-16 in the opening round of the Division I Sunset Region playoffs.
Shelbi Denman tossed a six-inning four-hitter with 13 strikeouts Wednesday to help Shadow Ridge’s softball team clinch the Division I Sunset League title with an 11-1 win at Legacy.

Kate Dennis’ two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning plated Samantha Milanovich with the winning run as Shadow Ridge’s softball team earned at least a share of the Division I Sunset League title with a 2-1 win over visiting Arbor View on Monday.
Madison Hood tossed a five-inning perfect game in her first start in the circle this season Thursday to lead Spring Valley’s softball team to a 14-0 home win over Clark.

Winning pitcher Mosie Foley belted a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Friday to lead Faith Lutheran’s softball team to an 8-7, nine-inning win at Sierra Vista.
Ashley Witucki, Megan Coyle and Morgan Blanner each had two hits Wednesday to help host Bishop Gorman’s softball team upset top-ranked Palo Verde, 5-3.
Cara Beatty slammed two two-run homers, both toward right field, and top-ranked Palo Verde scratched across a run in the seventh inning to claim a 5-4 road win over No. 8 Centennial.
