Here are the 2018 softball honors, as selected by the coaches.
Martin quieted Centennial’s bats over 5⅓ innings as the Mustangs advanced to the Sunset Region softball championship with a 7-5 victory.
Makall Whetten knocked a two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead over Shadow Ridge. The Mustangs left the bases loaded in the seventh without scoring, and Palo Verde advanced to its ninth straight Sunset Region final.
Shadow Ridge cruised to an 11-3 home win over Faith Lutheran in the Sunset Region softball tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
Amanda Sink set the Nevada state record with 20 strikeouts in a seven-inning game, leading Centennial to a 12-0 road win against Durango in the first round of the Sunset Region tournament.
Caitlyn Covington was 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead Shadow Ridge’s softball team to a 7-5 road victory over Centennial on Friday afternoon.
Makena Martin hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to complete Palo Verde’s rally and help the Panthers’ softball team beat visiting Faith Lutheran, 5-4.
Samantha Wade drove in a pair of runs to restore the Panthers’ lead, and Palo Verde held on for a 5-3 home win over Centennial on Thursday. It completed a three-game sweep, and it was the 15th straight by Palo Verde over Centennial dating back to 2014, including five postseason meetings.
Adriana Thomason scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Arbor View’s softball team to a 7-6 victory over Faith Lutheran on Thursday evening.
Maggie Whipple scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning Tuesday as Faith Lutheran’s softball team rallied to edge host Arbor View, 6-5.
Morgan Matsumoto went 2-for-3 with an RBI Monday as Foothill’s softball team defeated host Las Vegas, 8-4.
