A Summerlin man performed taps on Monday afternoon in front of his home to honor U.S. military veterans for Memorial Day.
In his final days, Edward Turken, 96, serenaded his son over the phone with tunes like “Stayin’ Alive” and “California Dreamin’ ” from his bed in the ICU unit at Summerlin Hospital.

Jerome Countess, a Silver Star recipient in World War II and a longtime supporter of the Las Vegas Jewish Federation, died March 18 at University Medical Center after a fall in his Summerlin home. He was 99.
