Late kick gives Green Valley’s Omar Rubio Lake Mead Invite win

Omar Rubio led the way, as he once again edged Arbor View’s Ian Jackson at the end to win the 3.1-mile race. Rubio sprinted away in the final 300 meters to win in 16 minutes, 24.4 seconds. Jackson finished second in 16:26.9.

GIRLS SOCCER: Silverado slips past Sierra Vista

Margie Farnsworth scored on an assist from Victoria Bravo in the 75th minute to give Silverado’s girls soccer team a 2-1 road win over Sierra Vista on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL: Pochop’s arm guides Rancho by Coronado

Samantha Pochop tossed a five-hitter and struck out 12 on Thursday to lead Rancho’s softball team to a 1-0 win over visiting Coronado in a matchup of the top two teams in the Division I Sunrise League.

BASEBALL: Basic clinches share of Sunrise League title

Ryne Nelson went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Basic’s baseball team secured a share of the Division I Sunrise League title with a 12-1 five-inning win over visiting Valley on Thursday.
