When UNLV head football coach Tony Sanchez referred to the Rebels’ in-state rivals as the “University of Reno, Nevada” at Tuesday’s press conference, it was perhaps a surprising remark from a coach just four games into his college coaching career.

It’s strictly at the brainstorming stage, but University of Nevada, Las Vegas consultants have floated the idea of extending the Las Vegas Monorail to a 42-acre site at Koval Lane and Tropicana Avenue to serve a potential UNLV football stadium and then extend the monorail to the Thomas & Mack Center and the rest of the UNLV campus.

Just when some UNLV football fans are beginning to think they’ve begun to put those losing years behind them, the athletic department has to go and test their loyalty by announcing that some season-ticket holders will have to begin paying a premium for the privilege of watching the new Rebels in action.
