Neither UNLV nor UNR wasted any time scoring Saturday night in the first college football game at Allegiant Stadium, as both teams made field goals on their first drive.
Only 2,000 fans will be admitted into UNLV’s first game Saturday at Allegiant Stadium against in-state rival UNR, but it will sound like the stands are much fuller.
A plan for the 37-game college football bowl season was unveiled Friday, but the fate of the Las Vegas Bowl is still uncertain. A decision is expected in the near future.
The game will be the Rebels’ first at Allegiant Stadium and the first time fans will be allowed in the stadium, with attendance limited to 2,000 because of coronavirus protocols.
The film from Saturday’s game against San Diego State wasn’t pretty, but there were moments to build upon from some of UNLV’s young players.

UNLV will open its season Saturday on the road against a San Diego State team that went 10-3 last season and has one of the nation’s top defenses.

Kenyon Oblad started nine games for the Rebels last season, but the sophomore from Liberty High School is one of three quarterbacks listed on the depth chart.
The Rebels are preparing for their opener against San Diego State while hoping to have as many players available as possible amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The UNLV football game against UNR, the Rebels’ first in Allegiant Stadium, will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
Nothing has come easily for Marcus Arroyo since he was named the 11th football coach in UNLV history in December. The Rebels open the season Oct. 24 against San Diego State.
UNLV officials would not disclose how many players were infected, but the team doctor said the positivity rate for all members of the program over the past two weeks was less than 2.5 percent.
