UNLV formalized the hiring of athletic director Erick Harper on Monday, effective Jan. 1, university president Keith E. Whitfield announced in a statement.

Erick Harper becomes the 15th athletic director in UNLV history, succeeding Desiree Reed-Francois, who departed in August for the same position at Missouri.
The Rebels are going about their business sans Desiree Reed-Francois, who on Sunday was announced as the new athletic director at Missouri.
UNLV athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois is leaving the department to become the AD at Missouri, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.
UNLV said in a news release that it expected to save $1.2 million by taking such a step. The action was taken because of the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis.
