Thousands of homes sell every month in Southern Nevada, but it seems they rarely, if ever, trade hands under the circumstances surrounding the one at 809 Palmhurst Drive. After owner Carole Barnish died in August, Shalena Earnheart filed a deed for the house and a probate case for Barnish’s estate. Earnheart said she was Barnish’s “only help” and “constant companion” for many years. But long-time neighbors say they’d never seen or heard of Earnheart until she took title to the home. She’s been accused of forgery and of repeatedly breaking into and ransacking Barnish’s house.

A woman wielding a pickax was arrested Tuesday near a North Las Vegas elementary school. A woman was reported climbing on the outside of the chain link fence at Williams Elementary School while more than 200 students were outside. She was screaming and yelling that she was gonna kill everybody. Police took her into custody after officers told her to come down from the fence. Kisstal Killough was booked into Las Vegas Detention Center on four counts, including assault with a deadly weapon. Police say she appeared to be impaired.

MGM Resorts International plans to raise their resort fees at some properties. The timing or size of the fee increase wasn’t given, but hinted they might soon push them up to Caesars’ level. Caesars raised resort fees at their eight Las Vegas Strip properties on Feb. 1. The rise in resort and other fees, like parking, will help offset inevitably higher labor costs, executives said. MGM spokeswoman Mary Hynes says the market “has experienced recent increases, and we subsequently anticipate making adjustments in the near future.” In January, MGM announced it would increase parking fees at 11 of its 12 Strip properties.

A Bellagio employee is accused of stealing $1,875 worth of lobster tails. Alex Hernandez, 49, faces one count of embezzlement. He was detained by hotel security until police arrived and took him into custody. Hernandez is being held at the Clark County Detention Center. His bail is set at $5,000.
Nye County officials have yanked the Love Ranch’s brothel license. Owner Dennis Hof has vowed he would get it back within days. Hof is accused of failing to obtain permission before modifying mobile homes at the site, but he claims he did not make any changes to the units. Hof says it’s political retribution because he’s running against Assemblyman James Oscarson.
