Two separate homicides happened less than a half-mile from each other and less than two hours apart in the east valley Monday evening, and the proximity and nature of the incidents prompted Sheriff Joe Lombardo to address the continuing increase in valley violence.

John Sheahan of LVMPD said a fight at the food court in the Fashion Show mall escalated into a shooting. One man was shot in the side of the neck about 6 p.m. The wounded man ran down an escalator and onto Las Vegas Boulevard, then later walked into MountainView Hospital.
