Allegiant Travel Co. announced plans in 2017 to build a beachfront resort. The plans said the resort would have a hotel, nine condominium towers and a marina spanning 22 acres in Western Florida. The initial phase of Sunseeker Resorts Charlotte Harbor calls for around 510 hotel rooms, 189 extended-stay units, meeting and conference space, and restaurants, bars and retail. The resort is set to open in 2020.

Drone sightings picking up in Nevada

According to data from the Federal Aviation Administration, there were 659 reported drone sightings between April and June 2017 in the U.S., three of which were in Nevada. This year, there were 784 within the same period, with 16 sightings in Nevada. These numbers keep track of all reports, but are not independently verified. Florida firm acquires company planning Las Vegas to LA rail line

XpressWest, the high-speed rail proposal to link Las Vegas with Los Angeles has been acquired by a company that provides rail service in Florida. Brightline announced plans to take over the rights to XpressWest’s 185-mile federally approved rail corridor along Interstate 15. Brightline indicated it also would acquire 38 acres adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip to build an intermodal transportation station with access to taxis, buses, shuttles and limousines. The company indicated it would begin building the rail line next year and complete a link between Victorville and Las Vegas by 2022. Under the company’s plan, a dual-track line free of grade crossings would be built between Las Vegas and Victorville. Eventually, the plan envisioned a 60-mile link west between Victorville and Palmdale, California, where the line would meet with Southern California’s Metrolink commuter rail lines and the California High Speed Rail line that is under construction.

Water main break closes part of Maryland-Desert Inn intersection

The intersection of Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway is partially blocked due to a water main break. Southbound lanes and all but one northbound lane on Maryland Parkway are closed between Desert Inn and Twain Avenue. Two lanes of westbound Desert Inn are shut down; eastbound lanes remain open. On Monday night a contractor working at the intersection damaged one of the water district’s 16-inch underground pipes, spokesman Corey Enus said. Enus said Maryland Parkway would likely remain closed through Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning, as crews work to fix it.

Two people were in custody after a chase involving Nevada Highway Patrol and Nye County Sheriff”s office deputies ended in southwest Las Vegas. Las Vegas police blocked off Rainbow Boulevard north of Tropicana Avenue around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Law enforcement personnel prepared to tow a black sedan as part of their investigation. It’s not certain what precipitated the chase or where and when it started. Check back for updates.

Authorities say troubled rapper-singer XXXtentacion has been fatally shot in Florida.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office says the 20-year-old rising star was pronounced dead Monday evening at a Fort Lauderdale-area hospital. He was shot earlier Monday outside a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership.

Argument turns deadly, 1 man stabbed

Las Vegas homicide detectives are investigating after a man was stabbed to death Sunday night at a strip mall on Maryland Parkway. The stabbing was called in about 11:45 p.m. Sunday and occurred at 2797 S. Maryland Parkway, near Vegas Valley Drive. Two men in their 50s got into a fight as they walked together on Maryland Parkway. One of the men stabbed the other and took off on foot. The man who was stabbed was taken to Sunrise Hospital where he died.

Southern Nevada teams did not have the best run in the state tournament. First Basic lost to Douglas Thursday. The Wolves were eliminated by Shadow Ridge on Friday. Shadow Ridge lost a three-run lead in the seventh to Spanish Springs on Thursday, then got bounced by Douglas on Friday. Boulder City and Pahrump Valley were both eliminated from the Class 3A tournament Friday. Needles and Laughlin were eliminated from the 2A tournament. Indian Springs got bumped form the 1A tournament. Pahranagat Valley is the only team still alive entering Saturday.

Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate on April 21, 2016. An autopsy found he died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl.
Search warrants unsealed about a year after Prince died showed that authorities searched his home, cellphone records of associates and his email accounts to try to determine how he got the drug. The county attorney has scheduled a morning announcement at which time charges could be filed.

Suspended Las Vegas lawyer Jacob Hafter dies at age 42

Las Vegas lawyer Jacob Hafter died Tuesday at the age of 42. Las Vegas police dispatch logs show that officers went to Hafter’s office at about 1:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a suicide attempt. According to the Clark County coroner’s office, Hafter was taken to UMC, where he was pronounced dead .
His cause of death has not been determined. The controversial lawyer was suspended by the Nevada Supreme Court in Novemeber for lying under oath and making derogatory public comments about a district judge.

CCSD will hire an investigator after allegations that the Employee Management Relations department engages in favoritism and discrimination. The allegations were made by former employee, Donald Harris, in a letter sent to Clark County School Board trustees. The letter laid out a range of accusations against Associate Superintendent Edward Goldman painting a picture of a leader who has gained power by collecting and leveraging information about his colleagues. Donald Harris Harris was a director in the department who retired last week. The accusations come as CCSD is deciding whether to hire an internal or external candidate to replace retiring Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky.

2 rescued after car crashes into lake

Two people were rescued safely after a car crashed into a lake in the Desert Shores community in northwest Las Vegas. The crash was called in five minutes before midnight at a lake near Breakwater and Port of Call drives, according to Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski. A man and woman managed to get out of the car and onto the roof, Szymanski said. One of them couldn’t swim, so they waited for help to arrive. Firefighters pushed a raft over to the couple and used a fire hose to pull them back to shore, Szymanski said. No one was injured. No one was injured. Las Vegas Police took over the investigation to determine how the car got into the lake.
