MGM paying for Campos hotel stay; lawyers question influence over key shooting witness

Mandalay Bay security officer Jesus Campos has been staying at an MGM Resorts International property at the company’s expense following the deadly Oct. 1 mass shooting. As a result, some veteran trial lawyers are questioning the company’s gesture and potential influence over Campos, a key witness in the criminal investigation and civil litigation against MGM Resorts. Campos accepted the paid hotel stay for his own protection after he was identified Oct. 4 as the officer shot by the gunman the night of the massacre outside Mandalay Bay. Another veteran trial lawyer, Robert Eglet, said the company’s decision to shelter Campos from the public could backfire.

Tropicana saw bookings fall 35 percent after Las Vegas shooting

The operator of the hotel closest to the Route 91 Harvest Festival grounds not operated by MGM Resorts International said the Tropicana Las Vegas experienced a 35 percent cancellation rate on bookings in the days immediately following the Oct. 1 mass shooting. But Jay Snowden, president and chief operating officer of Penn National Gaming, said there were no group cancellations and that the downturn in bookings appears to be a short-term situation that is gradually going away. Penn was the first gaming company to publicly quantify the extent of cancellations in relation to the shooting. MGM Resorts reports quarterly earnings on Nov. 8.

Tarkanian believes Trump wants him to beat Heller in GOP primary

Danny Tarkanian believes President Donald Trump wants him to beat Sen. Dean Heller in Nevada’s Republican primary. Tarkanian isn’t counting on an endorsement, however, because he knows Trump needs Heller’s vote to pass legislation. Tarkanian made his comments Wednesday on reviewjournal.com’s “Nevada Politics Today.” “President Trump needs Dean Heller’s support on other bills that he’s trying to pass, so it’d be pretty unrealistic to think that he’s trying to come out and attack Dean Heller now, while he’s still waiting for the votes to come through,” Tarkanian said.

Investigators pronounced him dead just before 6:30 a.m. The woman may have been intoxicated, McGrath said. She only provided the man’s street name.

Tarkanian made his comments Wednesday while filming Nevada Politics Today.

“I believe he (Trump) will want me to win,” said Tarkanian. “How much he’ll come out publicly or not, I don’t know that answer. But I’ll tell you this. There’s no way Dean Heller can get away from the fact that he was a Never Trumper in the last election.”
