NOTES: Desert Pines linebacker Fields tackles recruiting with gusto

Tony Fields, a 6-foot-2-inch, 205-pound linebacker, has been one of the area’s most heavily recruited players this spring. He has 19 scholarship offers — Northwestern was the most recent on April 30 — and his family has racked up plenty of hotel points over the past month and a half making unofficial visits on the weekends.

Richard Nelson, who helped the Cowboys’ football team to its best season in 25 years as a senior, signed a national letter of intent Wednesday with Missouri State, the culmination of four years of dedication and perseverance by the standout running back/outside linebacker.

Bishop Gorman recruits plan to ‘Play Like A Champion’ for UNLV

Best friends and team captains for the two-time defending national champion Gaels, Jaron Caldwell and Julio Garcia II were the first two players to commit to the Rebels’ 2016 recruiting class, arguably the best in UNLV history with a school-record 10 three-star recruits. The 6-foot-3-inch, 315-pound Caldwell and 6-3, 325-pound Garcia pledged their allegiance to UNLV in February 2015, less than three months after Sanchez was hired.

RECRUITING: Arbor View’s Jones, Sims to team up again at Southern Utah

Bishop Jones and Alex Sims each signed a national letter of intent with Southern Utah on Wednesday, the first day recruits can make their commitments binding. They were two of 10 Arbor View athletes who signed during a morning ceremony in the school’s gym in front of more than 50 friends and family members.

NOTES: NIAA sets vote to nix postseason ban

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association last year quickly rebuffed a proposal to allow member schools to play in a postseason football bowl game.

Fourteen months later, the NIAA is at least willing to reconsider a similar request.
