For the past two years, Mark Jacoby has prepared groups of students for their “Warren.” Warren spends his days missing meals, getting picked last in kickball, and not getting the care and nurture that kids deserve. With a sheet of paper, Jacoby demonstrates the toll it takes on Warren’s self-worth, ripping away pieces until only a strip remains. Warren is imaginary, but the situation is not.

Behind the doors of an unremarkable building in an older part of town, there is a woman who has given birth more than 1,000 times, a man who regularly fakes post-traumatic stress disorder and a storage room with stacks of babies. It’s just another day at the office for the staff of the Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas.
The Science Bowl has rules — no notes, no calculators and no second chances. That’s OK because the team from The Meadows School didn’t need any of those things. In April, five of its upper school students are set to travel to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Science Bowl Finals. Hyde Park Middle School’s team also earned a spot in the competition.
Author J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” usually is not described as “industrial,” “grungy” and “punky,” but the Faith Lutheran Theatre Company’s new production of the classic tale will be just that, says technical director Erik Ball.
With school out for the summer, Clark County School District trustees are spending a little quality time with students outside the classroom through the district’s new initiative, Trustees Teach: Education Through Exploration, a series of student events that trustees will participate in before school starts Aug. 27. The first event, the Self Esteem and Etiquette Workshop, was July 17 at Nehemiah Ministries.
