Las Vegas home prices grew fastest among major markets in February for the ninth straight month. But amid affordability concerns, the growth rate has slowed down. Southern Nevada prices in February were up 9.7% from a year earlier, according to the latest S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller index. The last time Las Vegas’ price growth fell below 10% was in September 2017, S&P Dow Jones Indices reported.
Henderson Constable Earl Mitchell may face additional charges … stemming from his spending of county funds, sources said. A beefed-up baggage claim, food offerings and security check coordination helped McCarran International Airport take top honors in a closely watched 2018 airport study. McCarran tied for first with Orlando International Airport in in a J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study. McCarran is the busier of the two with 48.5 million passengers in 2017 compared with 44.6 million for Orlando, Florida’s busiest airport. McCarran has regular commercial air service from 39 carriers; Orlando has 40. In 2017, McCarran was ranked third among North America’s largest airports behind Orlando and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County International Airport.

The Pinball Hall of Fame plans to move to a newly built facility on the south Strip. The Las Vegas arcade has been based out of a building near UNLV since 2009. Its operators are looking to build a 27,000-square-foot facility. The arcade currently has 250 pinball machines, but an additional 800 are in storage.
Some carry-on bags at McCarran airport will soon be scanned with the same type of technology used by hospitals for medical images. CT imaging is already used to screen checked baggage. The scanners will be deployed to McCarran and 14 other U.S. airports in the next few months, allowing the TSA to see items more clearly. Each machine costs at least $350,000. Over time, the TSA said it expects processing to be faster. The technology may someday allow travelers to keep liquids and laptops in their bags.
Bagans, proprietor of Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum at 600 E. Charleston Road, has in his clutches a painting of Manson with Manson’s ashes in the eyes. This is a common medium for the painting’s artist, Ryan Almighty, who uses human blood (in this instance, his own) and human remains to create his artwork. Bagans, host of Travel Channel’s paranormal investigation series “Ghost Adventurers,” received the painting at his Las Vegas attraction on Saturday morning. He is having it framed, and plans to display the work beginning Wednesday, in a museum room dedicated to convicted killers.
The Adult Superstore on Main Street has closed its doors for good after 45 years. The shop, which offered a multitude of adult toys, novelty items and movies, opened in 1973. Four other locations remain open. A note on the front door tells customers, “We can’t fully express our sorrow.” Adult Superstore was awarded Best of Las Vegas adult store by the Review-Journal in 2016 and 2017 .
Unions representing Las Vegas casino workers could call a citywide strike as early as June 1 if they do not reach a deal with employers. Las Vegas casino strikes have been avoided in most cases. The last citywide strike was in 1984. It affected 32 resorts and lasted 67 days. A month-long strike in June could cost MGM Resorts and Caesars as much as $300 million in cash flow, according to a union report In 1984, a union strike fund helped support workers during the period they picketed.
UNLV baseball has been in a major rebuild mode. Coach Stan Stolte oversaw a 15-win improvement this season. Bryson Stott helped key the turnaround for the Rebels. Kyle Isbel (No. 5) is expected to be a high MLB draft pick. The Rebels hope even better days are ahead.
The Lights FC had a rough night against LA Galaxy II on May 26. The Lights lost 7-2, their worst defeat of the season. The team is now in a tie for the fourth-worst goal differential in the USL (-8). The Las Vegas Fire Department responded to reports of a fire around 11:20 Tuesday night at 4516 Mark Ave. A fire started in the back yard and spread up the back side of the house and into the second floor. Flames and thick, dark smoke billowed from the home. No one inside was injured, but a firefighter did suffer a cut to his hand and was hospitalized. The cause of the fire is not yet known
Garrett Giles’ bases-loaded walk powered Basic to a 2-1 home win over Rancho in nine innings. Basic scored in the second, Rancho scored in the fourth, and it remained tied until the ninth. Nick Thompson started for the Wolves and pitched 6 1/3 strong innings. Rancho starter Layton Walls went 6 2/3, and neither factored into the decision. Basic improved to 25-5 (15-4 Sunrise League), one game behind first-place Rancho (24-5, 16-3).
The NRA announced on Monday that as a result of Vice President Mike Pence’s attendance at their annual convention, guns will not be allowed. NRA It was later announced that President Trump would also be in attendance. When Pence and Trump are not in attendance, guns will be allowed at the convention again.
On Monday, Stormy Daniels filed a defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump in federal court in New York. The complaint stems from one of Trump’s tweets. According to Time, the court filing claims the tweet was “false and defamatory.”

Lights FC midfielder Carlos Alvarez is on pace for a career year. The attacker already has two assists in two games this season. His play is likely going to draw the attention of higher-level clubs. I’m pretty sure that Carlos doesn’t want to end the season with us. Why? Because I’m sure one high level team will take him during this season. A head-on collision Friday morning sent four people to the hospital with injuries police say were not life threatening. The crash occurred when the driver of a Honda Accord attempted to turn left onto Flamingo from Swenson Street. Police were not sure if either driver was impaired.
