Reid says Republicans will not protect American families

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Wednesday predicted Democrats will hold onto control of the Senate in this year’s election, especially if union members fight to help get the word out that Republicans are “simply not interested in helping American families.”

In a 20-minute speech to the United Steelworkers convention in Las Vegas, Reid accused the GOP of working to block every proposal from Democrats in Congress and from President Barack Obama.

Pelosi urges union to get out the vote to help Democrats in November

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Monday addressed the annual United Steelworkers convention in Las Vegas, where 2,500 delegates were expected to attend.

As a congressional Democratic leader, Pelosi is pushing for her party to pick up more seats in the Nov. 4 general election, although Republicans are widely expected to maintain control of the House this year.

Democrats will need to excite their union backers to help get out the vote in a lackluster year when there’s no presidential race or U.S. Senate contest in Nevada to drive voters to the polls.
