Brian Greenspun atack on Wayne Allyn Root and the Review-Journal falls flat

Last Sunday, Brian Greenspun, CEO and publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, called out Review-Journal columnist Wayne Allyn Root for an opinion piece he recently wrote. In that column, Mr. Root chastised Jim Murren, CEO of MGM Resorts International, for sending donations to organizations that promote left-wing propaganda and constantly attack conservative groups.

One of the groups he mentioned was the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Mr. Greenspun, who as a publisher should promote the freedom of speech that is guaranteed in the Constitution, instead chastised the Review-Journal for printing Mr. Root’s column. This is a tactic that left-wing ideologues use to eliminate free speech for those with whom they disagree. Remember, Mr. Root writes an opinion column.

Mr. Greenspun runs a newspaper that failed to survive on its own and has to get money from the Review-Journal and its readers to stay afloat. In other words, no one wanted to read its drivel. So it has to rely on the more conservative Review-Journal to stay in existence.

I have been reading the RJ since I moved here in 2004, and I have resented from day one having to subsidize Mr. Greenspun’s left-wing paper, which has more liberal, garbage-spewing writers than the RJ could ever dream up. Mr. Greenspun should be careful of biting the hand that feeds him — and he should find a copy of the U.S. Constitution and read it.
