Public Education Foundation honors two executives, Las Vegas mayor

The Public Education Foundation, a local nonprofit group, honored Wells Fargo Nevada Region President Kirk Clausen, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and NV Energy Senior Vice President Tony Sanchez III on Saturday at its annual Education Hero Award gala at Mandarin Oriental.

Clausen received the Education Hero Award, Goodman received the Lifetime Education Achievement Award and Sanchez received the Champion of Children Award.

“The Public Education Foundation’s Education Hero Award Gala celebrates the vision and extraordinary accomplishments of those who have been instrumental in improving public education and, in turn, creating a better community,” foundation President Judi Steele said in a statement.

The statement said Clausen and Wells Fargo were honored for charitable and civic contributions to public education. Goodman was honored for her commitment to improving public education. Sanchez and NV Energy were honored for championing children’s issues.

Proceeds from the event’s ticket sales will support foundation programs to improve teaching and learning quality in Southern Nevada’s public schools.
