Nevada businesses don’t pay the commerce tax — we all do
The headline on your Oct. 11 story was: “Commerce tax should stay on the books, Sandoval says.” The story went on to say, “With one exception, Sandoval said he has not personally received criticism of the commerce tax from those business required to pay it.”
Well, why should they criticize? They aren’t paying it. The whole thing was a well-orchestrated hustle and con from start to finish.
Capital doesn’t pay taxes. Capital collects taxes from the market. Only the market pays. Labor pays. The retired pay. The poorest and weakest pay. Only the people pay.
It doesn’t matter if every penny goes to education. The commerce tax is a cruel, vicious act of economic injustice unparalleled in the history of Nevada. The fact it was pushed through in the name of the so-called “greater good” does not make it any less corrupt.
I don’t believe the Republicans behind the petition to repeal the commerce tax have what it takes to get the needed signatures. Even if they do, I doubt they have the ability to articulate what’s wrong with it except to use the tired old mantra of, “No taxes! No taxes! No taxes!” — which, after the 2015 legislative session, nobody believes anymore.
