Pahrump inmate died after cutting himself, drinking cleaning products

Updated December 22, 2017 - 4:58 pm

The death of a Pahrump inmate in August has been ruled a suicide.

Robert Lynn, 58, died on Aug. 10 at University Medical Center in Las Vegas after being transported from the Nye County Detention Center in Pahrump. Authorities said Lynn’s cellmate found him bleeding from injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted.

The Clark County coroner’s office this week confirmed Lynn’s death was a suicide. Lynn died from exsanguination, or blood loss, to a degree sufficient to cause death. The blood loss, according to the report, was the result of multiple self-inflicted cuts. Lynn also suffered from gastrointestinal bleeding after ingesting liquid cleaning chemicals.

On Friday, Nye County Sheriff’s Office Lt. David Boruchowitz told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the sheriff’s office was unaware of the Clark County coroner’s ruling. He also said inmates being held at the detention center do not have access to cleaning supplies.

Lynn was in custody related to charges of escape from the detention center, the sheriff’s office said at the time of his death.
