Body of missing Creech airman found near Mount Charleston
The body of a missing Creech Air Force Base airman was found early Saturday afternoon near Mount Charleston, according to a base spokesman.
His body was found by Red Rock Search and Rescue near Deer Creek Road about 12:30 p.m. and about 2 miles north of Kyle Canyon Road, Metro spokesman Lt. Jeff Goodwin said Saturday night.
The airman was a member of the 432nd wing at Creech in Indian Springs, spokesman Tech Sgt. Shad Eidson said Saturday night.
Neither Goodwin nor Eidson could confirm the age or gender of the body.
Search and rescue volunteers were at Mount Charleston Friday night looking for the person, North Las Vegas police said Friday.
A missing person’s report was filed by the man’s wife from the couple’s North Las Vegas home, according to North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Sgt. Chrissie Coon.
Metro spokesman Lt. Ken Romane said Friday night that the missing man’s vehicle was found off a dirt road at Mount Charleston. The specific location was not available Friday.
Eidson said the airman will not be identified until 48 hours after family has been notified.
He provided a statement from the airman’s wing commander:
“We are saddened by this loss and are now focusing on helping the airman’s friends, family and squadron members during this time of grief,” Col. Jim Cluff said.
