Dia de Muertos: All ages are invited to enjoy theater, dance, food, illuminated alters, mariachis, face painting, an art exhibition and sugar skulls from 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6-8 at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. 2. Holiday Cactus Garden: Ethel M Chocolates, 2 Cactus Garden Drive, plans to kick off the 22nd annual attraction from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10. The countdown to the lighting of more than 500,000 colorful lights is set for 6 p.m. More than 70 percent of the lights this year will be LED, the business said. Radio host Mercedes from MIX 94.1-FM is slated to be the master of ceremonies, with holiday entertainment provided by Las Vegas Strip performers from "Human Nature" and the Jabbawockeez, as well as the Sin City Opera. The evening is set to feature photos with Santa, chocolate samples, face painters, balloon artists, raffles and more. The event is free, but tickets are required. A limited number of tickets were scheduled to be available starting Nov. 2 at the Cactus Garden Drive location. A family four-pack was being offered in exchange for nonperishable food items to be donated to Three Square food bank or a toy donation for HELP of Southern Nevada. 3. Stroll & Toast: The event is slated from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive. The event will feature wine and beer tastings, food samplings and music. The first 200 tickets are $30, with the price then increasing to $40. Guests must be 21 or older. Early check-in begins at 4:15 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Light of the World Childhood Cancer Foundation, which supports families battling childhood cancer in Nevada. 4. Comprehensive plan open house: Residents can offer input on the city of Henderson's comprehensive plan update from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, and Nov. 10 at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St. The city said it has experienced demographic and economic changes since 2006, when its last plan, called Henderson Strong, was adopted. The document is aimed at communicating the city's vision, long-term goals and objectives in terms of managing growth over the next 20 years. The foundation provides financial support and educational funds for children of Marines and federal law enforcement personnel who died while on active duty. Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest: The city of Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission is accepting entries for the annual contest through Nov. 30. The free contest is open to the first 50 entries from single-family residential homes within city limits. The six categories are: patriotic; children's theme; best holiday theme; most innovative; Griswold, featuring homes inspired by the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"; and street/neighborhood, for groups of homes within a neighborhood or on a street, with at least three homes participating together. Commission members plan to tour homes to evaluate the entries Dec. 7. Winners are set to be announced at the city's annual WinterFest celebration at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Fall suit drive: The United Way of Southern Nevada's Women's Leadership Council plans to host its annual one-day suit drive from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 in the parking lot of NV Energy, 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Donate suits and other professional items including dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry for women in need. The drive helps women prepare for career opportunities and gain confidence to succeed during job interviews and in the workplace. It will highlight the edibles that grow in the Mojave desert, with the key ingredient being the Mesquite bean from Mesquite trees. Capriola, Potenza and Aventura parks are set to feature fitness and lifestyle classes, interactive demonstrations, children's activities, entertainment, food trucks, a bicycle maintenance workshop and an antique Schwinn bicycle collection.
