Sandoval announces members of education cost-cutting commission

Gov. Brian Sandoval on Tuesday announced the members of a new commission charged with studying how to cut costs in Nevada's public education system.

Dubbed the Spending and Government Efficiency, or SAGE, commission, the governor's Chief Strategy Officer Dale Erquiaga will serve on and chair the 12-member body, according to a news release. Other members include retiring Assemblyman Pat Hickey, R-Reno, and Glenn Christensen, chairman of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.

Two former Clark County School District employees also will serve on the commission, alongside leaders from the non-profit sector and banking and hospitality industries.

The commission meets for the first time Dec. 1 and will study ways to increase efficiency for kindergarten through secondary education in Nevada. The commission will submit a final report of its findings and recommendations to the governor by Feb. 1, 2017.
