Las Vegas police investigate baby’s death

Las Vegas police are investigating the Tuesday death of a baby.

Officers responded to reports of a sick or injured person at 11:51 a.m. in the 1900 block of Dwarf Star Drive, near East Lake Mead and North Lamb boulevards.

The infant had already been taken to University Medical Center, according to Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer. UMC informed police of the child’s death at 12:42 p.m., Meltzer said.

Police believe the baby was less than a year old, Meltzer said.

Detectives went to the hospital and the home where the call originated, Meltzer said, but the investigation doesn’t necessarily mean that police suspect foul play.

“Any time we have a baby this young we err on the side of caution,” Meltzer said.
