Las Vegas man, 29, killed in hit-and-run crash on Strip

Updated May 30, 2025 - 5:22 pm

Police were searching for the driver of a BMW SUV after a Las Vegas man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning on the Strip.

A group of people were crossing Flamingo Road, near Las Vegas Boulevard, just outside a pedestrian bridge when a man was hit by a car, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The man was hit around 3:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Clark County coroner’s office had not yet released the man’s name on Friday. A Metro press release issued Friday didn’t identify the man by name, but said he was 29 and lived in Las Vegas.

The driver did not stay at the scene. Instead, they continued east on Flamingo, abandoning the vehicle, a 2016 BMW X5 mid-sized SUV, and fled on foot, police said.

Police urged pedestrians on the Strip to use crosswalks and the pedestrian bridges and called on drivers to be more careful.

“It is important to remind everyone to utilize those crosswalks and pedestrian bridges provided for your safety,” Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez said in a video included in a post about the collision on Metro’s X account. “To our drivers, it is an important reminder to always pay attention, watch your speed, and look out for pedestrians even in those roadways where we are not expecting them to be crossing.”

The hit-and-run death was the 70th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

Police were urging anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver to call Metro’s collision investigation section at 702-828-3595. To remain anonymous, anyone with information can also call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
