Teen football player in critical condition after struck by lightning

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Authorities say a teenage boy is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by lightning during football practice at a New Mexico middle school.

Albuquerque TV station KOB reports the teen was hit about 5 p.m. Tuesday at Picacho Middle School in Las Cruces.

Las Cruces police say the boy was rushed to MountainView Regional Medical Center and is reported to be in critical condition.

Las Cruces Public Schools officials say two additional players and a coach were sent to the hospital, but they were conscious and responsive.

Authorities didn’t immediately release the name of the teen or the other three people.
