Updated September 18, 2025 - 2:40 pm

A 31-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the street in south Las Vegas on Wednesday.

The pedestrian, identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Rodbel Virula, 31, was attempting to cross Valley View Boulevard near Somerset Hills Avenue just before 8 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck, according to Metro Lt. Steven Skenandore.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead, Skenandore said.

In a statement, police said the pedestrian “was crossing westbound across Valley View in a marked crosswalk. A 2003 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on Valley View, approaching the intersection. The GMC’s driver failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian, which resulted in a traffic collision.”

The GMC’s driver remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

The pedestrian’s death marked the 117th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2025.
