Montero honored, headed for Mets

Rafael Montero of the Las Vegas 51s was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week on Monday — at the same time he was headed for New York.

Last week, Montero struck out 11 batters and gave up one hit in eight innings as the 51s shut out Sacramento.

Montero, 23, was called up by the New York Mets and will start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. He’s replacing the injured Jacob deGrom in the rotation.
