Police shoot, kill man pointing gun at woman in southwest Las Vegas

Updated January 6, 2026 - 11:45 am

Police fatally shot a man who was pointing a gun at a woman inside a southwest valley apartment.

Moments before Capt. Ryan Wiggins briefed reporters on the shooting, a visibly shaken woman — barefoot and wrapped in a towel — walked through the building’s parking lot with another officer.

Police responded to a call for service at 7:30 a.m. in the 9200 block of West Russell Road and heard an argument inside a unit at the Gramercy Apartments, Wiggins told reporters.

After the woman opened the door, an officer saw a man pointing a handgun at a woman. The officer shot the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

“She was in extreme danger at that point,” Wiggins said. “The officer used force.”

The woman was treated at the scene for minor injuries, he said.

Wiggins said investigators were still working to determine the relationship between the woman and the suspect, and police did not know whether either of them lived at the complex.

He added that several officers saw the shooting, that they were being interviewed, and their body camera footage reviewed.

Parking spaces near the apartment’s front entrance were roped off with police tape as medical and police vehicles arrived throughout the morning.

The shooting was one of two police shootings in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction on Tuesday morning.
