Second Nevada 150th anniversary medallion available Monday

CARSON CITY — Want to be true to your state during its 150th anniversary year? Well starting Monday you can order the second official medallion minted to commemorate the state’s birthday on Oct. 31.

The new medallion shows a bearded miner holding a pick ax. The first one was of the state seal. Two more medallions are planned by the Nevada Sesquicentennial Commission.

One-ounce pure silver medallions sell for $100.50, while the copper medallions sell for $15.

The silver comes from the Coeur Mine near Lovelock. The medallions will be minted on the historic coin press No. 1 in the Nevada State Museum. The museum is housed at the Carson City Mint which operated 1870-93. The press minted millions of U.S. coins over nearly 100 years.

Orders for sesquicentennial medallions can be made through the Legislative Counsel Bureau website at https://www.leg.state.nv.us/app/lcbstore/a/default.aspx. Northern Nevadans can order by visiting the legislative store at 401 S. Carson St., Carson City.
