Former UNLV basketball player pleads guilty to theft

Former UNLV basketball player Savon Goodman pleaded guilty via a written agreement on Monday to charges he stole $500, a pair of shoes and several video games from an acquaintance in May.

Goodman did not appear in court.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Cynthia Cruz ordered Goodman to pay $1,370 in restitution, perform 200 hours of community service and stay out of trouble for a year.

Cruz allowed Goodman to perform the community service in his home city of Philadelphia, where he is living now.

If he fails to complete the requirements, he could face a year in jail.

His restitution was paid in full as of Monday, Goodman’s lawyer Bill Terry said.

As part of a deal with prosecutors, Goodman plead guilty to petty larceny and trespass, both misdemeanors. Goodman was originally charged with three counts including felony burglary and grand larceny and misdemeanor conspiracy.

The 6-foot-6-inch Goodman appeared in 27 games as a freshman for UNLV and averaged 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds. He was considered a potential starter this season before running into trouble.
