Lawyer seeking bail for Saudi in Las Vegas rape trial
A Nevada state court judge is being asked to reduce bail for a Saudi Arabia air force sergeant accused of abducting and raping a 13-year-old boy at a Strip hotel on New Year’s Eve.
Defense attorney Don Chairez is due to argue Monday that it’s unfair to keep holding Mazen Alotaibi on $1.72 million bail pending trial July 22.
Chairez says bail should be $85,000.
Alotaibi is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault of a minor under 14, lewdness with a child, coercion and burglary.
He could face life in prison if he’s convicted of kidnapping and sex assault.
Chairez says in court documents that Circus-Circus hotel video raises doubts about the boy’s claim that he was forced into a room and raped early Dec. 31.
