Arizona officials identify child, driver involved in fatal hit-and-run accident

The 70-year-old Kingman, Ariz., man who police say struck and killed a girl about 8 miles from the Hoover Dam bypass bridge called the National Park Service after fleeing the scene, according to authorities.
John Henry Stenseth, 70, was northbound on U.S. Highway 93 when the Ford SUV he was driving hit Mariaelena Alvarez, said Bart Graves, Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.
Alvarez, 7, of Glendale, Ariz., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Graves said the girl was traveling with her family in a vehicle that stopped along the north shoulder of U.S. Highway 93. She ran into the roadway and was struck.
Authorities said Stenseth fled the scene and drove to Calville Bay in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area before he notifying authorities.
Stenseth is employed by a vendor based at Lake Mead National Park under contract with the National Park Service.
Graves said investigative reports will be forwarded to the Mohave County Attorney's Office for review and prosecution considerations. Deputy County Attorney Jace Zack said it might be two weeks before reports are submitted to his office.
