Fuller named interim fire chief in Las Vegas

A longtime Las Vegas firefighter will replace retired Fire Chief Mike Myers on an interim basis, the city announced Tuesday.
Scott Fuller, 47, who joined the department in 1991, will be interim chief until a permanent replacement is hired, which could be later this month. Fuller does not intend to pursue the position full time, the city stated.
Fuller was promoted to deputy chief in 2008. He has served more than 30 years with the National Guard and is a colonel who commands the 65th Field Artillery Brigade in Utah, the city reported.
In 1992, Fuller and two other firefighters were credited with charging into a burning apartment and saving a 1-year-old boy from his crib after his older brothers started a fire with a cigarette lighter.
In addition to deputy chief and firefighter, Fuller has served as engineer, captain, battalion chief and assistant fire chief.
His base salary in 2012 was $113,311 according to the city's Transparent Las Vegas website, and total gross wages were $223,228 because of a $95,303 one-time payout related to selling back earned sick time. The city recently changed the sick time sell-back policy for executive and appointed employees, which prompted many longtime employees to cash out accrued hours.
As interim chief, Fuller will receive a pay increase of 5 percent of his base salary, city spokesman Jace Radke said.
Myers announced his retirement Jan. 22. He joined the department in 1986 and was promoted to chief in 2011. At the time of his retirement, his gross wages for the most recent year available were $207,392. His base salary was $130,185.
