Prosperity? Try the road to ruin

It is really sad to read a commentary like “The road to prosperity” by Jason Furman in the June 1 Review-Journal.

Does this man consider the national debt of about $20 trillion an example of prosperity? Employment? Unemployment is down only because a great many people are not looking anymore. Health care? Obamacare is a total, costly failure. Again, the middle class takes a hit. Minimum wage? Another case where the federal government should not be involved.

And, of course, while we face Islamic terrorism and disease the Democratic Party is fighting for men to relieve themselves in the ladies room.

The Obama regime is a total disaster for this once-great country.

Poor analogy

The comments by Mark Delbridge in his Saturday letter in response to Steve Sebelius’s recent column about not pointing guns at police are astounding (“Never say never when it involves your right to self defense”).

Every time you hear a foolish comment, you think no one can top it. People such as Mr. Delbridge, however, grab a longer handle to dig even deeper.

Comparing today’s police officers to Statspolezei is not just incredibly foolish but shows a lack of understanding about the difference between those who swear to protect and serve and those who practiced the most vile behavior and inhumanity.

We read of gun violence in our streets daily and the potential for an officer to face a gun is greater then ever. I don’t believe a Nazi policeman was ever in fear of having a gun pointed at him by an elderly Jewish man or woman as he kicked them to the ground.

Mr. Delbridge, find a better comparison than that.

Game plan

After reading all the controversy about the NFL team and the stadium, I have a tendency to agree with the idea that the taxpayers are being used. Why must we always have to absorb the cost of everything?

If Nevada started a lottery, we would have enough money for the schools, a stadium and the roads. Why do the taxes have to go up?

And why does a new stadium have to go near or on the Strip? Don’t we have enough traffic congestion on Interstate 15?

Go, Danny boy

Review Journal resident liberal political columnist Steve Sebelius continues his tired record of supporting Republican-in-name-only candidates over real conservatives when no viable left-wing Democrats are available.

So it is with Tea Party endorsed conservative Danny Tarkanian in the 3rd Congressional District. Mr. Tarkanian is running to replace outgoing RINO Joe Heck, who had a dismal pro-conservative voting record. Mr. Tarkanian presents an opportunity to send a genuine conservative to bolster the growing and influential Freedom Caucus of conservative members in the Republican House of Representatives.

Mr. Sebelius will have none of this. His May 27 attack column against Mr. Tarkanian plays semantics trying to discredit the candidate against his certified RINO opponent, state Sen. Michael Roberson. Yes, the same Mr. Roberson who voted for the largest tax increase in Nevada history. Google RINO and you’ll find a picture of Mr. Roberson to depict the breed.

Danny Tarkanian and the whole Tarkanian family were innocent victims of a bank failure that stole their invested income. Danny Tarkanian used his constitutional due process rights to resolve the damages that were entirely not his fault. But Mr. Sebelius believes that this conduct was somehow wrong and disqualifies Mr. Tarkanian from holding office.

In the same edition, a Review-Journal editorial complained about U.S. Justice Department overreach in handling housing market abuses by big banks. Settlement money to injured consumers overwhelmingly was earmarked for liberal political action groups. Now who will vote to stop this type of political social engineering that ignored the plight of true victims? Danny Tarkanian, is the right answer.
