After the rain, better weather expected in the valley
Rain and even hail fell Saturday in parts of the Las Vegas Valley, but sunnier weather is on the way.
The Las Vegas Valley should see sun and warmer weather next week, with no chance for showers, the National Weather Service said.
Saturday saw a high temperature of 70 degrees with a low of 56 degrees, meteorologist Andy Gorelow said.
McCarran International Airport saw .02 inches of rainfall Saturday, Gorelow said. Certain parts of the valley saw 0.5 inches, but everywhere else saw .010 inches of rainfall, he said.
A flash flood warning from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday was issued for northeast Clark County between Valley of Fire State Park and Overton, Nevada, meteorologist John Adair said. Roads were impassible due to flooding, he said.
Weather conditions Saturday formed the perfect situation for hail to occur, Gorelow said. Colder air in the atmosphere and unstable thunderstorms together resulted in hail.
“The hail didn’t have time to melt,” he added. “The biggest hail — nickel-sized pieces — fell near I-15 and Valley of Fire.”
Pea-sized pieces of hail fell in Henderson and Summerlin, Gorelow said.
There is a 20 percent chance of rain Sunday, Gorelow said. The high temperature is expected to be 78 degrees with some winds ranging from 10 to 20 mph.
Monday will be dry, he said. Rain chances are minimal into early next week.
Gorelow said Monday through Wednesday promise sunny skies and highs in the 80s with lows in the 60s.
No rain is forecast for the next 10 days, he said.
