Literary Las Vegas: “The Adventures of Sohi: Mystery of Moon Island”

Literary Las Vegas

Henderson author Susan Brauner grew up making up stories for her family. She still spins tales over Sunday morning pancakes with her grandchildren.

Her books "The Adventures of Sohi: Mystery of Moon Island" and "The Adventures of Sohi: Mystery in the Arctic" were born from those breakfast legends.

The first book follows 9-year-old Sohi on a quest to save the magic of the Rainbow Kingdom. Graphic artist Angelina Froke designed the books' covers and illustrations. For more information on the artist, visit scurvygirl.wordpress.com. For more information on the books, visit sohiadventures.com.

Excerpt from "The Adventures of Sohi: Mystery of Moon Island"

There in the corner of the Skreen's backyard, beneath the old maple tree, sat a large blue dragon! Sohi closed his eyes and took a deep breath. 'It must be the shadows from the tree playing tricks on me,' he thought. But, when he opened his eyes, the dragon was still there!

Sohi wanted to take a step backwards, but he told himself to be brave. He stood as tall as he could, and looked directly into the dragon's eyes.

"Where did you come from?" Sohi asked, barely speaking above a whisper.

The dragon answered cautiously, keeping an eye on Sohi. "My home is far away."

"Why did you come here?"

"I was hoping you would tell me," the dragon dipped his head questioningly. "You called me here when you blew my whistle."
