Much of Las Vegas sees significant rain; mountains still getting snow

It's March, but Southern Nevada is getting a taste of winter this weekend, including strong winds.

Much of the region is under a wind advisory, which expires at midnight, the National Weather Service said. Expect winds from the southwest at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts between 40 and 50 mph. Winds should decrease throughout the evening.

So far tonight, McCarran International Airport has received about a quarter an inch of rain. Some parts of the valley have received more.

SPRING MOUNTAINS, SHEEP RANGE

The weather agency has also issued a winter storm warning for the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range, which will expire at midnight. The warning is for elevations above 5,000 feet.

Snow began falling this afternoon and should peak tonight. Snow levels should begin around 7,000 feet before lowering to 3,500 feet by midnight. Accumulations: 8 to 16 inches of snow above 7,000 feet, 4 to 8 inches between 5,000 and 7,000 feet, with lesser amounts down to 3,500 feet.
