Parking woes find Mayweather again
Boxing champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. is in hot water again after he allegedly parked his new car in two handicapped spaces on Wednesday.
An eyewitness said Mayweather rolled up to a Bank of America in the southwest valley (4840 West Cactus Avenue near Southern Highlands Parkway) in a white gull-wing Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday and parked at an angle in the two spots marked for disabled.
The source said Mayweather, who lives nearby in a $12 million mansion, was confronted twice by men who objected to the boxer's parking choice.
Mayweather exchanged some heated words and walked into the bank with a sequined satchel and was seen making a deposit of about 20 packets of $100 bills. The source said it appeared Mayweather banked about $200,000.
Police records indicate they were called to the bank at
11:45 a.m., but it was not clear whether they had contact with the five-division world champ who ran his record to 42-0 on Sept. 17 with a fourth-round knockout of Victor Ortiz.
In July 2008, one of Mayweather's sports cars was photographed parked in a handicapped space.
CHERA KIMIKO UPDATE
A face familiar to local TV viewers showed up at the IHeartRadio Musical Festival over the weekend.
Chera Kimiko, a former anchor at KVBC-TV, Channel 3 (now KSNV), was with a group at Tabu (MGM Grand) that included NBC "Today" show producer Mary Ann Zoellner.
Kimiko is dating Zoellner's brother Dr. Chuck Zoellner.
The Denver native was a rising star in Las Vegas a decade ago when she landed at Clear Channel's startup station in Tulsa, Okla., as the lead anchor. And what a memorable sendoff/introduction: On her last day at KVBC, she appeared as a fight-scene reporter in "Ocean's Eleven," which premiered Dec. 7, 2001.
She quickly became one of Tulsa's brightest media stars, winning "best TV personality" nine years in a row. Now the 12-time marathon runner is parlaying her popularity into "Chera's Shu's."
"I bling out running shoes for marathoners!," she said by email.
Career opportunities? CNN's Headline News made a job overture, "but I like it here," she said.
SIGHTINGS
Sports legend Bo Jackson, among the celebrities on hand for Wednesday's pro-am of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin. Joining Timberlake were former NFL stars Marshall Faulk and Seth Joyner; comedians George Lopez, Cedric the Entertainer, and Anthony Anderson; former NBA forward Truck Robinson and Chris Kirkpatrick of 'N Sync. The New York Post reported Wednesday that Timberlake may take a role in the Broadway adaptation of John Grisham's best-selling novel "A Time To Kill." This could pose a time-commitment problem for Timberlake as the tournament's host beyond next year when his five-year deal ends.
