Documentary looks at Nazi propaganda film

Movie: "A Film Unfinished"

When: Opening Friday at Village Square

Cast: Alexander Beyer, Rudiger Vogler

Director: Yael Hersonski

The story: Discovered after World War II, propaganda film footage of the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942 became a resource for historians -- until the discovery of a long-missing reel put the footage in perspective, showing crews manipulating the action they captured on camera.

The buzz: An award-winner at the Sundance Film Festival, this documentary fuses impressions from both victims and oppressors to explore the story behind the unfinished Nazi propaganda film "Das Ghetto" and 30 minutes of outtakes, discovered in 1998, that show how camera crews manipulated scenes of life -- and death -- in the Warsaw Ghetto.
