Cher turns ahead time

Cher can toss the Colosseum keys to Celine Dion on her way out, as the singer has opted not to extend her residency at Caesars Palace beyond her original three-year commitment.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for the pop legend's last batch of shows, set for Jan. 11 to Feb. 5.

A news release says Cher will have performed about 200 shows over three years. Like Bette Midler before her, that would fulfill her original Las Vegas contract; no more, no less.

The run concludes well before the anniversary of Cher's May 2008 debut, but producers say the commitment is counted by the number of shows, not calendar months.

Dion returns to the Colosseum on March 15, but -- at least as originally announced -- with a more limited commitment of about 70 shows per year; 54 already are scheduled March through August.

That leaves plenty of space for venue operator AEG Live to announce another anchor headliner. But so far, the only bookings are weekend concert acts such as Kathy Griffin, Jeff Dunham and two Leonard Cohen dates, Dec. 10 and 11, which also go on sale Saturday.
