Coroner ID’s woman found dead after standoff in valley

The woman who was found dead inside a northeast valley home early Tuesday morning by Las Vegas police was identified Thursday by the Clark County coroner's office as 20-year-old Stefany Ann Sommers.

The coroner's office said Sommers died from multiple stab wounds. The coroner's office also found signs of strangulation.

Police arrested 28-year-old Michael Long, believed to be Sommers' boyfriend, in connection with her death. Long was involved in a four-hour standoff with police in which he shot at officers from an apartment. One officer returned fire.

Police identified the officer as 31-year-old Aaron Lee. Lee has been with the department since January 2007.

The incident lasted from about 8:45 p.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday at a complex at 3804 Terrazzo Ave., near Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard North.

Long ultimately surrendered to police. Nobody was injured in the exchange of gunfire, police said.

Sommers' body was discovered when officers entered the home.

Long was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder with a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnap with a weapon and four counts of attempted murder of a police officer.

According to Clark County court records, Long plead guilty to receiving and possessing stolen vehicles in 2006. He was sentenced to 16 months to 48 months in prison.
