Looking at the world through partisan-colored glasses
Too many people look at the world through partisan-colored glasses. Everything they see is shaded by their own beliefs and prejudices. They attribute motive where none exists.
Take the offended reader who wrote in this morning to rant about the story on former President Clinton being briefly hospitalized appearing on Page 8A.
"Pres. Clinton's recent heart procedure appearing on page 8 of today's Review Journal is just unbelievable!" he or she exclaimed. "I just don't see how you can call yourselves journalist when everything you print is so pro REPUBLICAN. Our subscription will be up soon and it will make me very happy to discontinue this constant daily bias reporting."
The 63-year-old ex-president who had heart bypass surgery five years ago had two stents placed in a clogged artery. That's practically out-patient surgery. In fact, as the story predicted, Clinton is home today.
"The Review-Journal is not a newspaper reporting the news in a fair and impartial manner, but a mouth-piece for the Republican Party! It will be very refreshing to wake up and listen to the news on TV. You and FOX station are a disgrace to the news media. You have no respect for your readers or listeners," he or she concluded. I wonder if this person noticed the last couple of stories about Dick Cheney's heart, yes he has one, were not banner headlines.
There were a couple of brief clips lasting less than a minute each on the local stations I was scanning this morning. I wonder if they will get scathing e-mail.
