State shuts down group home in LV

State health authorities forced a Las Vegas group home to shut its doors Aug. 13 after investigators found several deficiencies, including the failure to properly administer medication and the lack of food and running water at the facility.

Seven elderly, disabled or mentally ill patients from Sanchez Home Care, 4504 La Roca Circle, were moved to other group homes, according to Marla McWilliams, chief of the State Health Division's Bureau of Licensure and Certification.

Four inspections since April also found that group home employees improperly restrained a resident, failed to take a patient to a dialysis treatment and accepted a patient with medical needs that the facility could not provide.

According to McWilliams, the home had been owned during the inspection period by Frank R. Sanchez Enterprises and has since been sold.

The current and previous owners could not be reached.
