Teuton chosen as judge

Assistant Clark County District Attorney Robert Teuton has been appointed to fill the Family Court judge's position left vacant by retiring Judge Gerald Hardcastle.

Teuton will serve the remaining two years of Hardcastle's term and will be eligible to run for the seat when it comes up for election in 2010.

Teuton was one of three finalists chosen by the Nevada Judicial Selection Commission on July 22. A total of eight candidates vied for the position.

The names were sent to Gov. Jim Gibbons, who selected Teuton.

"Mr. Teuton's experience protecting the interests of children and families will be a valuable asset to the family court," said Gibbons in a prepared statement. "I'm confident he will do an excellent, fair job presiding over the sensitive and important issues that go before family court judges."

Teuton serves as the assistant district attorney supervising the Family Court Support Division.

Family law attorneys Bryce Duckworth and Charles Hoskin were the other two finalists. Duckworth is running for Family Court seat Department Q and won enough votes to advance to the general election. Hoskin is running for Family Court seat Dept. R and also won enough votes to go on to the general election.

The Judicial Selection Commission includes Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Gibbons, three attorneys appointed by the state bar association and three non-attorneys appointed by the governor.
