Coroner identifies man who died in Friday night crash
The Clark County coroner’s office on Saturday identified the 42-year-old pedestrian struck and killed Friday night by a drunken driving suspect.
He is Jacob Norman Gernux, of North Las Vegas.
Stacy Yavorsky, 38, of Las Vegas, struck 38-year-old Eric Gernux and Jacob Gernux near the intersection of Rancho Drive and Craig Road just before 8:30 p.m., the release said.
Yavorsky showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests, according to a Metro release Saturday. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
Jacob Gernux was pronounced dead at the scene. Eric Gernux was transported to University Medical Center Trauma with serious injuries.
The pedestrians were crossing Rancho outside of a crosswalk when Yavorsky, who was driving north on Rancho in the left lane, struck them with her 2015 Hyundai Tuscon, forcing them to the ground, police said.
This is the 21st traffic related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2015.
