An American Airlines flight on its way to McCarran International Airport made an emergency landing at Nellis Air Force Base on Saturday afternoon. Flight 671 was diverted to the base because of wind conditions at the airport and low fuel levels, Nellis spokeswoman Rebekah Mattes said. American Airlines spokesman Josh Freed said there was no fuel leak, and the airplane had enough gas to get to McCarran. The airplane, which was on its way to Las Vegas from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, had 194 people on board, including six crew members.

At age 17, Cristina Hernandez found herself homeless in Las Vegas. At age 33, she has hit the sweet spot in Washington, landing a coveted White House fellowship.
Hernandez received her B.A. from UNLV in 2010 and had begun work as a contractor who trained military personnel at Nellis Air Force Base. Her fellowship project put Hernandez in the Office of Personnel Management, where she is working to advance an executive order signed by President Donald Trump to “create a lean, accountable, more efficient government that works for the American people.”

Nellis commander fired over superior’s ‘loss of confidence’

A Nellis Air Force Base commander has been fired over his superior’s “loss of confidence.” Lt. Col. Jearl C. Allman was relieved of duty as commander of the 99th Security Forces Squadron by Col. Paul J. Murray, commander of the 99th Air Base Wing at Nellis. The 99th Security Forces Squadron provides anti-terrorism protection, police services and flight-line security for Nellis and Creech Air Force bases. Staff Sgt. Jason Couillard confirmed the news but would not elaborate. Maj. John Hart assumed command of the squadron on Oct. 17.

Candlelight vigil held in Nellis Air Force Base chapel

About 50 people, mostly airmen, gathered in a chapel on Nellis Air Force Base for a candlelight vigil Monday in the aftermath of Sunday night’s massacre.

Light peered through stained glass windows and the sound of fighter jets occasionally buzzed overhead as Lt. Col. Dwayne Jones addressed the congregation.

Jones said his main message was to find positivity and not let evil overcome good.
